Prepare a SmartgridOne EMS installation by checking the account, licence, devices, network, wiring, mounting location, and commissioning requirements.
SmartgridOne Controller installation checklist
Use this checklist with the customer before the site visit. It helps identify account, network, device, and cabling issues before the installer arrives. Complete sections 1 through 6 in advance and use section 7 during commissioning.
Important
Items marked Belgium only apply to installations using a Fluvius digital meter. Always check the latest model-specific documentation before the site visit.
1. Account and licence
- The installer has an active installer account in SmartgridX, or the organisation owner has already registered one.
- The controller licence has been purchased and is available.
- Licences can be purchased in bulk and assigned to a controller serial number after installation.
- The controller serial number and verification code are available so the controller can be claimed in SmartgridX.
2. Site and devices
- The controller model has been confirmed: SmartgridOne Pro (EDS) or SmartgridOne Light (M1S).
- Wiring and mounting requirements differ by model. Check the specifications and installation instructions.
- The required cabling has been determined for every connected device.
- See the network requirements and wiring and connectivity guidelines.
- Every inverter, battery, EV charger, heat pump, meter, or other device to be connected appears in the list of supported device integrations.
- A working, supported grid meter is available, such as a P1 meter, A1 meter, or another supported grid measurement.
- For P1 or A1, plan a direct connection to the digital meter.
- Belgium only: the P1 user port of the digital meter has been activated through Mijn Fluvius.
- Measurements may take several hours to appear after activation, so activate the port in advance.
3. Network
- A fixed, wired internet connection with an RJ45 socket is available at the controller mounting location.
- A wired connection is the required and recommended connection for the controller.
- The network cable has been tested with a laptop to confirm that it provides internet access before connecting it to the controller.
- If a 5G router is used, its subscription provides at least 5 GB per month, plus 1 GB for every device above five devices.
- A data-saving mode is available to reduce usage where necessary.
- CAT5e cable or better is available.
- Use shielded cable in commercial or industrial environments.
- Keep each Ethernet run at or below 100 m; use a network switch or repeater for longer distances.
- The controller and all communicating devices are on the same subnet.
- For example,
192.168.1.10and192.168.1.25are on the same192.168.1.xsubnet. A device on192.168.200.xcannot normally communicate with a controller on192.168.1.x.
- For example,
- The building owner or network administrator has confirmed whether fixed IP addresses are required.
- DHCP is the default and recommended configuration. Use a fixed IP address only when unavoidable and record the assigned address.
- The outbound firewall rules allow the required connections:
- TCP 80 and 443 for general internet communication.
- TCP 1194, or TCP 1192 / 35000-40000, for updates, diagnostics, and remote support.
- TCP 1883 and 8883 for MQTT when live external control signals are used.
- UDP 123 for NTP time synchronisation.
- The customer's IT team knows that no inbound ports or port forwarding are required.
- Port forwarding is unnecessary and creates a security risk.
- If the customer network uses a domain allowlist,
*.eniris.be,*.eniris.io, and*.eniris.comhave been allowed. - It has been decided whether the installation will use a dedicated VLAN.
- A VLAN is optional. All devices that communicate with the controller must use the same VLAN.
- If Ethernet cabling is unavailable, powerline adapters have been considered and the relevant power sockets have been checked for compatibility.
- Powerline adapters generally need sockets on the same electrical phase.

4. RS485 wiring, when applicable
- Shielded twisted-pair cable is used, with one pair for RS485 A and B and a characteristic impedance of 100-120 ohm.
- Devices are wired in a daisy chain.
- Do not use a star topology and do not connect the same bus to multiple controller ports.
- Every device on the bus has a unique address.
- Start with low addresses so devices can be discovered more quickly.
- Termination and biasing have been configured for the controller model and bus topology.
- Use 120 ohm termination at the ends of the daisy chain. Some controller models provide configurable termination through DIP switches; other models require external termination resistors.
- The cable shield is grounded at one end only, using the electrical earth of the installation rather than signal ground.
- Approximately five devices or fewer are planned per RS485 bus for optimal performance.
- The absolute maximum is 20 supported unit-load devices. Use an RS485 expansion accessory or additional available buses when more capacity is required.

5. Power and mounting
- The mounting location has been selected for wall or DIN-rail mounting, depending on the controller model, and is accessible for power and network cabling.
- A power socket is within reach of the mounting location.
- Eniris supplies the AC wall adapter as standard; the customer only needs to provide a suitable socket.
- The accessories included in the order have been checked.
- A P1-to-USB cable, DIN-rail kit, and RS485-to-USB adapter are not always included as standard.
- The power circuit and socket are externally protected by a miniature circuit breaker (MCB) and residual-current circuit breaker (RCCB) in accordance with local regulations.
- The mounting location meets the environmental requirements.
- Do not install the controller outdoors, in direct sunlight, near flammable or explosive materials, gas pipes, radiators, or unventilated lead-acid batteries.
- Do not install it in a damp, flood-prone, or vibration-prone location.
- The controller will not be mounted on its side and at least 1 cm of clearance is available around it.
- The controller enclosure will not be intentionally connected to electrical earth.
- This does not affect the separate RS485 cable-shield grounding requirement in section 4.
- Strain relief is provided wherever cables may be exposed to mechanical stress.

6. Prepare the controller
- Power the controller and leave it connected for at least 10 minutes so it can download the latest software updates.
- Claim the controller in SmartgridX.
- Complete the initial configuration wizard and enter the essential installation information.
- The installer knows how to contact Eniris Support.
- Create a ticket first at eniris.com/support.
- Telephone support is available at +32 9 377 12 58 after a ticket has been created.
7. Installation day and commissioning
- Connect and configure the devices through the commissioning wizard.
- A stable internet connection is available throughout commissioning.
- The connection is required for automatic firmware updates and allows Eniris Support to assist remotely when necessary.
- The end user's email address is available so they can be added as a user in SmartgridX after installation.
